 Grand Design Momentum

Bill is one of those guys that can look at a project and an efficient design comes to his mind. You can see how Bill succeeded in his career setting up manufacturing plants, as he pays attention to all the details. I was one of his first installs years ago, and I still get complimented on the layout of my system. And, the best news is, when we turned it on, everything worked the first time – and still does!

In the pics below, the difference between how Bill works and how other installers work is obvious. I had hired a popular installer just to add an inverter and subpanel. The wires weren’t long enough and needed to be lengthened. The other installer left that unsafe spaghetti of wires behind my wall. The following pic is how it looked after Bill spent about 40 minutes cleaning it up and making it safe. I was so glad Bill found that before a fire started.

For the above reasons, and also because he answers the phone when I have a question, I recommend Bill as a professional, knowledgeable, and get the job done right solar installer.

Install March 2022    2021 Airstream Globetrotter 27FBQ

Bill and Kelly installed our solar, battery and inverter system back in March of 2022. They could not have made the entire process easier. It started with design, they really listened to what our wants/needs were and designed a system they would match perfectly. We dropped off our RV for the install, as they were located only about 20 minutes from our house. During the install, Bill figured out a way to get a 7th solar panel, instead of the 6 we planned on, they are always looking out for your best interests. When it came time to pick up the RV, Bill spent a ton of time, going over every detail of the install and how to use the system. It was time well spent. We have had the system going on 2 years now and everything works perfectly. I text Bill about every 6-8 months and thank him for such a bulletproof system.
We love to stay in national forests and CoE lands. Most times with no hookups available. Our setup lets us stay there with ease and we don’t worry about running a generator or feeling limited on power.
It was a great experience and I would 100% do it again and have Bill and Kelly do the install.

Install November 2020 Montana 312RL

"We had our solar system installed in our Montana 312RL fifth wheel by RV Solar Solutions in Clearwater, Florida in November 2020, by Bill and Kelly Murray. We couldn't be happier. The installation went smoothly and the system has performed beyond expectation. In short, if you are considering having solar installed in your RV you will be very happy with the equipment, the quality workmanship and professionalism provided by RV Solar Solutions. My wife and I are retired and bought our first RV in March 2020. We had always dreamed of traveling in the western United States and planned to boondock on Federal and State land. We loved the outdoors and working up a good sweat with hiking, bicycle riding and kayaking. In order to do this, we knew we would have to have solar installed.

I toyed with the idea of designing, purchasing and installing the system myself. But after many, many hours of YouTube research, I decided that a professional install was more up our alley...but by whom?

After searching the internet, I had narrowed down the possibilities to three installers. I emailed all three expressing my needs and desires and it quickly became evident that RV Solar Solutions was the most responsive and knowledgeable. My initial contact was with Greg Young, the owner. Almost immediately after a telephone call where he asked about our RV (we have a residential refrigerator) and our desires (we wanted our battery bank to last three consecutive cloudy days), I received his design plans and price quote. I'm not going to lie and say solar is cheap...it isn't. But Greg's quote was very competitively priced when compared with the other bids I received. Coupled with his professionalism, I decide RV Solar was our choice.

For anyone not familiar with RV Solar's business model, their installers travel around the country and you decide when and where to meet up with them for the install. In our case, we traveled fom Huoma, Louisianna to Clearwater, Florida. The RV Park where we met them was great, and we even got the site for half price with Passport America.

Bill and Kelly Murray, our installers, were very friendly, knowledgeable and professional. Not to be forgotten in these days and times, they were also very mindful of COVID protocols. The always wore masks (as did we) when we were interacting. They opened all the windows and turned on both roof vents when inside our rig, and at the close of each day wiped down all interior surfaces that they came in contact with during the install.

The install took three days to complete - eight solar panels, inverter/charger, solar charge controller, battery monitor, three 300 amp hr lithium batteries and all connecting hardware. After the install Bill walked us through how to monitor and control the system and was very patient with me while I videoed the entire instruction, (which I must say was very intimidating...but more on that later.) After the instruction session, Bill and I went out to the power pedestal and unplugged our rig and we spent the remainder of the evening and that night running off our battery bank. Bill and Kelly came back the next day to see how we did and answered all our questions. After that we said our goodbyes.

So...there we were...alone with our solar system and pretty intimidated! I didn't want to do anything that would mess it up but at the same time I wanted to learn how to run it. Bill's reassuring words continued to run through my mind, "Go ahead and use it. It is really durable setup...and I am only a text message away!"

Okay, jump forward five months to the present. We couldn't be happier. We have been off grid for six days straight with no problems. (We haven't been boondocking yet because of COVID but we have unplugged at several camp sites to put the system and us through the paces.) When we arrive at a camp ground our battery bank is always full (assuming the sun is shining), which is really nice. Before solar we almost always were about out of battery power when we arrived because of the draw of the residential refrigerator. No problems anymore, rain or shine. In short, we couldn't be happier with our solar system. But what truly is the best part of the purchase we made from RV Solar came after we parted ways with Bill and Kelly in Florida. I have texted an embarrassingly high number of times and he has ALWAYS responded promptly with the answer to my question via text, and frequently with an unsolicited phone call. I have contacted him early in the morning and late in the afternoon and he has always been there to patiently provided the solution to my problem.

With that said, please don't get the wrong impression. The system has worked flawlessly. It is the operator that needed the help...and that is me. Like I said, a solar system is a little intimidating for the newbie, but with Bill's help I am feeling more and more confident and I don't have to contact him nearly as often now.

So...would I install solar on my rig again? Absolutely. Would I change anything about the system Greg designed for us? Absolutely not. Would I recommend RV Solar Solutions to anyone looking to get an RV solar system? The answer is a great big YES. So, if you are considering solar on your rig, do yourself a favor and contact RV Solar Solutions.

November 2019 install 2019 Grand Design 34' 5th wheel

We traveled to Florida to meet up with installers Bill and Kelly to have a system installed on our fifth wheel. The quality of the workmanship and products were outstanding. Bill showed up each day when promised and finished the project a bit ahead of schedule. He kept a clean and tidy work site and we were never put out of our house for him to complete the work. A great job was done throughout the process to educate us about the system and it's operation. We not only got a great solar system, but feel like we made new friends in Bill and Kelly in the process. Highly recommend!

June 2019 Install 2017 FR Georgetown XL 377

I have been looking for the past several years to get a solar system on my RV, and had decided on RV Solar Solutions. Being out on the west coast, it made installation scheduling a challenge. Once Bill came on board as an east coast installer, plans started to fall into place. Then I bought my new motorhome in October 2018 (Georgetown 377XL) and it was time to pull the trigger. By early 2019, I had my scheduled appointment in Somerset PA for the install in early June. The install took approximately 40 hours, and the final installation reflects a professional installation in form, fit, and function. Additionally, post installation customer support has been outstanding. Ever since the installation in June I have been able to operate the coach without having to plug into shore power or operate the generator. Even at the RV parks we went to, I plugged into shore power, but kept the breakers off. You could say I have been boondocking for months. It has been a pleasure dealing with RV Solar Solutions and Bill and Kelly, and I highly recommend that if you are looking for a solar installation, look no further than RV Solar Solutions.

As an addtional note, I did have 2 issues arise, one was with one of my batteries and later with the inverter. In each case RV Solar Solutions were very responsive and new replacement parts were at my location within a week. The battery was easy to install, two wires and it was done. The inverter would be a little more challenging, but still within the capability of the average RVer. However, being Full-time RVers, Bill and Kelly were in proximity to me and offered to meet me at a local Walmart where Bill swapped out the inverter. Problem fixed! I never expected this level of support and I am extremely thankful to them for the help.

This solar system was the best modification I have ever made and continually wonder why I had waited so long to get it done. We are looking forward to the different opportunities this system will afford us in the future in the way we approach camping.
